Protected Places

Longfellow Reserve

In 2019, DIBS was able to purchase four prime, contiguous properties on the south side of Longfellow Place behind the water tower. This was made possible through donations from the Senter/Germany family, the Winn Family, Harriett Wright's Estate, and the generous Membership and Friends of DIBS.

These heavily wooded lots are located just inland from the main dune line and provide shelter and food for both native and migrating woodland birds. A loop trail provides access into the Longfellow Reserve and was constructed by SCA (Student Conservation Association) workers that were funded through a Cornell Land Trust award and Gulf Corps. There is minimal road-side parking on Longfellow Street.
