YOU did what's
BEST FOR THE NEST!
Thanks to donations from individual donors and a surprise gift from the Ben May Charitable Trust (Mobile), DIBS was able to acquire the property on Indian Street where the Bald Eagle nest is currently located. Once again, the eagle nest appears to be active, and the diligent parents are tending to their duties. Keep your eyes out for eagle activity when you next visit the island!
DIBS continues to solicit funding to acquire properties near the eagle nest to maintain a protected corridor of undeveloped habitat.
NFWF GRANT NEWS
The DIBS team has completed their work with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and South Alabama Land Trust (SALT) to utilize funds from the Gulf Benefit Fund (GBF) grant to provide Conservation Easements on 28 properties on Dauphin Island. The grant provided funding for the purchase of 24 properties as of February 2024 with a few more property purchases on the horizon by the end of this year. This exciting and timely news is a positive step forward in the protection of critical bird habitat as development has expanded at an alarming rate on the island.
